Major Taiwan reef at risk of being developed into gas terminal

Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here: https://ift.tt/2qHOrkO Taiwan’s Datan algal reef, one of the world’s largest shallow sea biotic reefs, is under threat of being developed into a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal. At most terminals, ships can berth their tankers, store LNG in cryogenic tanks, regasify LNG or send out gas into the transmission grid. The self-ruled island is due to hold a referendum on December 18, 2021 for voters to decide whether the terminal should be built.
