Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai and 7 others sentenced over banned Tiananmen Square vigil

Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here: https://ift.tt/2qHOrkO Jailed Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai Chee-ying was sentenced to another 13 months behind bars on December 13, 2021, while his seven co-defendants received jail time ranging from 4½ to 14 months for their respective roles in a banned 2020 Tiananmen Square vigil. The 74-year-old founder of the now-defunct Apple Daily newspaper was found guilty of inciting others to take part in the candlelight vigil in Victoria Park on June 4, 2020. His latest punishment will run concurrently with a 20-month term he was previously given for his involvement in three other unauthorised assemblies. Daily medical waste levels are said to be twice that of the incinerator’s capacity. From March 19-23, 2022, the city generated over three times more clinical waste each day , compared to the same period in 2021, according to the city’s Environmental Protection Department. Clinical waste refers to potentially harmful substances generated by clinics, hospitals and laboratories, including used syringes and body tissue. They cannot be recycled and must be incinerated or buried in a landfill due to their potential health risks. Heavy reliance on single-use food containers and Covid-19 rapid test kits have also contributed to the rising level of wastes, some of which are now buried in a landfill in the New Territories.
