The country was already tightening measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus while battling outbreaks linked to the Delta strain in several provinces. Beijing has been using a “dynamic zero-Covid strategy” in a bid to control outbreaks as quickly as possible through mass testing and strict limits on movement and transport.
