France unveils prototype zero-emission cargo ship powered by hydrogen

The hydrogen-powered Energy Observer 2 was unveiled at the United Nations-backed One Ocean Summit in the French city of Brest on February 10, 2022. The ship is capable of carrying up to 240 freight containers. Its founder, innovator and explorer Victorien Erussard, says the project’s goal is to decarbonise one-third of the world’s existing fleet of greenhouse gas-emitting cargo ships.
