‘Come and eat’: Sri Lanka soup kitchen opens its doors to the hungry

Long queues form outside the meal centre, where the hungry eagerly await a free vegetarian meal. An acute fuel shortage in the country has not only forced cars off the road, but people are now unable to cook even if they have food supplies, with cooking gas scarce. A Christian non-profit group has set up soup kitchens at 12 of its churches, serving some 1,500 people daily since June 2022.
