1 dead, 6 injured in oil tanker explosion off Hong Kong

Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here: https://ift.tt/9lxIkwA A Panamanian-registered oil tanker exploded some 300km (186 miles) east of Hong Kong waters, leaving one dead and six others injured on April 16, 2022. The 120-metre (394ft) vessel, the Chuang Yi, was carrying about 13 crew members at the time of the blast. Two helicopters and a fixed-wing aircraft from the Hong Kong government were sent to the scene of the explosion. According to Hong Kong authorities, the one fatality occurred before rescuers had arrived, while a fire that broke out following the blast had also been contained. Daily medical waste levels are said to be twice that of the incinerator’s capacity. From March 19-23, 2022, the city generated over three times more clinical waste each day , compared to the same period in 2021, according to the city’s Environmental Protection Department. Clinical waste refers to potentially harmful substances generated by clinics, hospitals and laboratories, including used syringes and body tissue. They cannot be recycled and must be incinerated or buried in a landfill due to their potential health risks. Heavy reliance on single-use food containers and Covid-19 rapid test kits have also contributed to the rising level of wastes, some of which are now buried in a landfill in the New Territories.
