Hong Kong Legco election candidates up close: Regina Ip, Allan Zeman and Simon Lee

Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here: https://ift.tt/2qHOrkO Since Beijing overhauled the city’s electoral system earlier this year to ensure only “patriots” govern Hong Kong, some pro-establishment veterans have decided to switch to new constituencies. The polls have seen the rise of new elites – many of them Hongkongers who work in Chinese state-owned enterprises – shaking up the traditional pro-establishment camp. In the second of a three-part series, the Post speaks to New People's Party chairwoman Regina Ip, who is running in the Hong Kong Island West constituency, as well as Election Committee constituency candidates Simon Lee, who works for the state-owned China Resources Group, and Allan Zeman, chairman of the Lan Kwai Fong Group. Major Taiwan reef at risk of being developed into gas terminal

Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here: https://ift.tt/2qHOrkO Taiwan’s Datan algal reef, one of the world’s largest shallow sea biotic reefs, is under threat of being developed into a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal. At most terminals, ships can berth their tankers, store LNG in cryogenic tanks, regasify LNG or send out gas into the transmission grid. The self-ruled island is due to hold a referendum on December 18, 2021 for voters to decide whether the terminal should be built. Rescue Datan’s Algal Reefs Alliance convenor Pan Chong-cheng fears that the electricity terminal project will put the Datan algal reef at risk. Putin only understands ‘the language of guns’, says Ukrainian soldier at Russia-Ukraine border

Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here: https://ift.tt/2qHOrkO Tensions have risen to their highest level between Russia and the United States since the 2014 Russian annexation of the Crimean peninsula, which is internationally recognised as part of Ukraine. Moscow has sent an estimated 100,000 troops to the Russia-Ukraine border, though it has denied planning to attack its western neighbour. The deployments, it said, serve as a warning to keep Ukraine out of Nato. Washington has said it is committed to helping Ukraine defend its “sovereign territory”, but will not deploy US troops. Hong Kong’s Cross Harbour swim makes triumphant return amid Covid-19 restrictions

Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here: https://ift.tt/2qHOrkO Hong Kong’s iconic Cross Harbour swim has returned, after a two-year hiatus because of the 2019 protests and the pandemic. About 1,200 entrants set off from the city’s Wan Chai district on Sunday December 12, 2021, swimming 1km (0.6 miles) across to Tsim Sha Tsui. The pandemic meant entries for this year’s swim were slashed by more than 60 per cent. All competitors were fully vaccinated and had taken a Covid-19 test beforehand.
