US, Philippine troops fire air-defence missiles as part of annual joint exercises

The live-fire exercise on April 25, 2023, took place at a naval base north of Manila, about 259km (161 miles) from the disputed Spratly Islands in the South China Sea. On the eve of the test, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang travelled to the Philippines for talks with the country’s president Ferdinand Marcos Jnr, with both sides pledging to resolve their differences.
