Thousands of Bronze Age artefacts unearthed from Laolongtou graves in China’s Sichuan province

Archeologists announced on June 18, 2022, that they had found the relics in the Laolongtou graves in Yanyuan county in Sichuan province. They said more than 1,100 graves and a sacrificial horse pit have been discovered at the site so far. China’s Bronze Age generally refers to an era during the Shang and Zhou dynasties, from about 1600BC until 771BC. Excavations that started in the Laolongtou area in the 1980s have so far extended to about 30 per cent of the 12,200 square metre (131,320 sq ft) site. Daily medical waste levels are said to be twice that of the incinerator’s capacity. From March 19-23, 2022, the city generated over three times more clinical waste each day , compared to the same period in 2021, according to the city’s Environmental Protection Department. Clinical waste refers to potentially harmful substances generated by clinics, hospitals and laboratories, including used syringes and body tissue. They cannot be recycled and must be incinerated or buried in a landfill due to their potential health risks. Heavy reliance on single-use food containers and Covid-19 rapid test kits have also contributed to the rising level of wastes, some of which are now buried in a landfill in the New Territories.
