Chinese workers take explosive approach to clear ice jams

Ice jams are river blockages caused by melting ice that can cause floods or raised water levels. Authorities in Huma county arranged for the ice detonation in a river on the border with Russia, as temperature rises have caused the river to thaw at a faster rate. The practice, known as ice blasting, is done around the world, including in the Canadian capital Ottawa, which carries out annual ice-blasting of the Rideau River.
