Thousands of shark fins bound for Hong Kong confiscated in Colombia

Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here: https://ift.tt/2qHOrkO A shipment of 3,493 shark fins destined for Hong Kong was confiscated by Colombian authorities on September 23, 2021. According to environmental authorities in the capital Bogota, 900-1,000 sharks measuring 1-5 metres (3-16ft) would have been killed for the amount of fins seized. Colombian police are handling the investigation since the country imposed a ban on shark fishing in 2020 as part of efforts to combat Asia's fin trade. In traditional Chinese culture, shark’s fin is seen as having health benefits and is often served at wedding banquets.
