Philippine boxing legend Manny Pacquiao retires after announcing presidential bid

Starting his professional boxing career at age 16, Pacquiao rose to become one of the world’s most highly paid athletes. Pacquiao fought 72 competitions throughout his 26-year career, with 62 wins, eight losses and two draws. He holds 12 world titles and is the only fighter in history to win titles in eight different weight classes. His decision to retire came after losing to Cuban boxer Yordenis Ugas in August, Pacquiao’s first fight in more than two years. The boxing legend, who’s also a serving senator in the Philippines, is shifting his focus to politics, after declaring his candidacy to run in the country’s presidential elections in 2022. Daily medical waste levels are said to be twice that of the incinerator’s capacity. From March 19-23, 2022, the city generated over three times more clinical waste each day , compared to the same period in 2021, according to the city’s Environmental Protection Department. Clinical waste refers to potentially harmful substances generated by clinics, hospitals and laboratories, including used syringes and body tissue. They cannot be recycled and must be incinerated or buried in a landfill due to their potential health risks. Heavy reliance on single-use food containers and Covid-19 rapid test kits have also contributed to the rising level of wastes, some of which are now buried in a landfill in the New Territories.
