China exports 350km/h bullet trains to Indonesia for Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway

The engines and carriages left China’s eastern port city of Qingdao on August 21, 2022, and are expected to arrive later in the month for deployment on the railway connecting the Indonesian capital Jakarta to Bandung in West Java. The line projected to be ready by June 2023 will reportedly cut the travel time between the two cities from nearly three hours to about 40 minutes. The railway is a flagship project under the Belt and Road Initiative, Beijing's trade initiative to link economies into a China-centred trading network. China has bankrolled most of the US$7.9 billion cost of the project. Daily medical waste levels are said to be twice that of the incinerator’s capacity. From March 19-23, 2022, the city generated over three times more clinical waste each day , compared to the same period in 2021, according to the city’s Environmental Protection Department. Clinical waste refers to potentially harmful substances generated by clinics, hospitals and laboratories, including used syringes and body tissue. They cannot be recycled and must be incinerated or buried in a landfill due to their potential health risks. Heavy reliance on single-use food containers and Covid-19 rapid test kits have also contributed to the rising level of wastes, some of which are now buried in a landfill in the New Territories.
