Temperatures have consistently hit above 40 degrees Celsius (104°F) in the city of Chongqing in the week of August 17, 2022. Water parks have become a popular destination to spend time under the sweltering heat. The Meixin Red Wine Town amusement park even provides water mahjong, poker and chess options, while another park nearby poured over 2,000kg (4,409lbs) of ice into the pool.
