Smuggled live lobsters in US$1.3 million seafood haul seized in Hong Kong after high-speed chase

Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here: https://ift.tt/2qHOrkO Hong Kong customs have arrested two suspected mainland Chinese smugglers while seizing a shipment of HK$10 million (US$1.28 million) worth of contraband seafood, including 890kg (1,960lbs) of live lobsters and 930kg (2,050lbs) of dried sea cucumbers. The speedboat was intercepted on November 15, 2021, after a high-speed sea pursuit near Lamma Island that lasted for about 10 minutes. It is the first seizure of lobsters since late October, when the city’s new customs chief, Louise Ho Pui-shan, described the smuggling of products to the mainland as a vital “national security priority”. Daily medical waste levels are said to be twice that of the incinerator’s capacity. From March 19-23, 2022, the city generated over three times more clinical waste each day , compared to the same period in 2021, according to the city’s Environmental Protection Department. Clinical waste refers to potentially harmful substances generated by clinics, hospitals and laboratories, including used syringes and body tissue. They cannot be recycled and must be incinerated or buried in a landfill due to their potential health risks. Heavy reliance on single-use food containers and Covid-19 rapid test kits have also contributed to the rising level of wastes, some of which are now buried in a landfill in the New Territories.
