Japan avalanche killed 2 foreign tourists, including US skier Kyle Smaine

US skier Kyle Smaine was named as one of the two victims killed in the January 29, 2023, incident which caught a group of 13 skiers and snowboarders who were reportedly outside patrolled areas of a ski resort. An avalanche warning remains in place for the area after days of heavy snow.
