Hong Kong opens city’s first car-cyclist-pedestrian bridge and new tunnel

Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here: https://ift.tt/71WujAb The new bridge called the Cross Bay Link, forms a 1.8km two-lane carriageway across Hong Kong’s Junk Bay, and is the first in the territory to accommodate cars, cyclists and pedestrians. It connects to a cycling track along the nearby Tseung Kwan O waterfront, giving cyclists a 5km scenic coastal loop. The bridge opens on the same day as the 2.2km Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel, which will connect the residential cluster of Tseung Kwan O to the commercial hub of Kwun Tong, reducing vehicle travel time by up to 20 minutes. Daily medical waste levels are said to be twice that of the incinerator’s capacity. From March 19-23, 2022, the city generated over three times more clinical waste each day , compared to the same period in 2021, according to the city’s Environmental Protection Department. Clinical waste refers to potentially harmful substances generated by clinics, hospitals and laboratories, including used syringes and body tissue. They cannot be recycled and must be incinerated or buried in a landfill due to their potential health risks. Heavy reliance on single-use food containers and Covid-19 rapid test kits have also contributed to the rising level of wastes, some of which are now buried in a landfill in the New Territories.
