South Korean capital sees worst rainfall in 80 years leaving at least 8 people dead

The downpour has killed at least eight in the East Asian country, injuring nine people while six were listed as missing. The popular Gangnam district in southern Seoul was one of the hardest hit areas, with power lines down and stores flooded. The Korea Meteorological Administration expects rainfall to continue through August 11. Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway nears completion, projected to significantly cut travel time

The high-speed railway is expected to cut travel time between the two cities from over three hours down to about 40 minutes. The Jakarta-Bandung railway project was announced in 2015, when Indonesian President Joko Widodo granted the project contract to a consortium of Chinese and Indonesian state-owned enterprises known as Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), over rival bidder Japan. It is expected to be completed in 2023. Multiple chefs worked together to create a torta 74 metres (242ft) long and weighing at least 800 kilograms (1,764lbs). A time record was also broken at the event, with the torta being assembled in just two minutes and nine seconds. Different from the traditional sandwich, the torta is bigger in size and can be made up of a variety of products. Every section of the record-breaking torta had a different flavour, each representing local recipes from across the country. Hong Kong cuts Covid-19 hotel quarantine for overseas travellers to 3 days plus 4 days at home

The city will require uninfected travellers to stay in a hotel for three days then stay at home, or in a hotel, for the following four days. Current rules require travellers to spend a week in quarantine at a designated hotel of their choice. Under the new arrangements, travellers who continue to test negative for the virus during their final four days of the week after arrival will be able to leave home to visit low-risk locations such as offices and shopping centres and they can use public transport.
