In a case local media are calling a national first, Teresa Xu filed a lawsuit against the hospital in Beijing in 2019 but courts sided with the hospital in 2021. Xu’s final appeal on May 9, 2023 comes as Beijing could be shifting its stance on providing reproductive technology to unmarried women, as the country deals with a declining population.
