China is said to have topped the grisly ranking with ‘thousands’ of executions, although exact figures are unknown because the death penalty there is considered a state secret. Amnesty’s report also says nearly 40 per cent of all known executions in 2022 were for drug-related offences, including 11 executions in Singapore.
