China set to drill Asia's deepest crude-oil well in Xinjiang

Designed to be Asia’s deepest, the well will be drilled to a depth of 9,472 metres (6 miles). The exploration is part of China’s Deep Earth drilling project, launched by energy and chemical giant Sinopec, which has already built 120 wells at depths of over 8,000 metres (5 miles) across the Taklamakan Desert.
