According to the official, the US military will bolster forces in Nato countries but will not enter Ukraine. First responders say that 13 people were killed during the predawn raid, including several women and children. US officials say al-Qurayshi killed members of his own family when he detonated an explosive during the battle. Another woman and a child were killed during a firefight between an Isis lieutenant and US forces. Al-Qurayshi became the head of the militant group after its former leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, died during a similar raid by US forces in 2019. The wild birds carry out the task voluntarily, because they receive food for every butt that they pick up. Corvid Cleaning, the company behind the project, estimated that using the birds could save at least 75 per cent of the costs involved with picking up cigarette butts around the city. New Caledonian crows found in Sweden appear to be well-suited to the task, since they have reasoning skills at the level of a seven-year-old child, according to some researchers.
