Russian man jailed for 2 years over daughter’s anti-war drawing flees house arrest

Alexei Moskalyov was found guilty of discrediting the armed forces, an offence Russia introduced soon after its February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. After a nearly year-long investigation, Moskalyov was placed on house arrest and his daughter was sent to a children’s home south of Moscow in early March 2023. Their separation sparked a public outcry in Russia and an online campaign to reunite the family.
