Australia’s new PM Albanese vows to rebuild unity and trust after Labor Party election win

Their victory ends almost four years of government under incumbent Liberal-National coalition leader Scott Morrison, who oversaw a period during which the nation’s relations with China fell to what has been described as the worst level seen in decades. The new prime minister is a politician moulded by his humble start in life as the only child of a single mother who raised him on a pension in a gritty inner-Sydney suburb. Albanese said he hoped to unite Australians who “have had enough of division” and he promised to begin rebuilding trust in Australia. He was immediately sworn in ahead of his trip to Tokyo for a May 24 summit with leaders from the US, Japan and India. The meeting will address issues concerning climate change and China’s strategic competition in the Indo-Pacific region. Daily medical waste levels are said to be twice that of the incinerator’s capacity. From March 19-23, 2022, the city generated over three times more clinical waste each day , compared to the same period in 2021, according to the city’s Environmental Protection Department. Clinical waste refers to potentially harmful substances generated by clinics, hospitals and laboratories, including used syringes and body tissue. They cannot be recycled and must be incinerated or buried in a landfill due to their potential health risks. Heavy reliance on single-use food containers and Covid-19 rapid test kits have also contributed to the rising level of wastes, some of which are now buried in a landfill in the New Territories.
